Windows xp usb memory stick size limit

Now I'll install all my PortableApps. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. What counts is that bottom line, one way or another, the problem eventually was resolved. Chim , Mar 8, FYI I use Toshiba flash drives. Eldon , Mar 9, I'm curious about the 3 drivers installed.

Do you remember what they were? I don't let MS install drivers. I got burned twice so no more of their suggestions on driver updates for me. Eldon likes this. But, if you can tell me how and where I can find them on my Windows XP, I'll give it a shot at checking to see what they are. Chim , Mar 9, I also like WindowsXP very much. Presently running Win7 though. Booboo58 , Mar 9, Back when this very computer was still my brother-in-law's computer, I did at one time actually get at image of its HD with Macrium Reflect and saved it onto my Flash Drive.

Who is right? Macrium Reflect would probably work from a flash drive but I guess that would depend on how much needs to be backed up. An external HD would have enough space to backup numerous drives, numerous times. That way you could backup your drive today and next month and the next month and so on. We all have programs that we eliminate for one reason or another and this way you would always have a current backup of your HD.

My latest current backup on my external drive is I have a lot of needed programs. Last edited: Mar 9, That time that I made an HD image of this computer when it was my brother-in-law's, I believe I recall the file size was only a little over 6 Gig.

Now that it's my computer, it would almost assuredly be a little bit more than that, but not by much Anyway, thanks for the info, Booboo. Chim , Mar 11, Chim, you can probably find them in the history of your updates. Monday, July 18, PM. Sincerely, IoTGirl. Suffice it to say behavior will depend on the format of the USB key.

Chances are the memory on the keys that are failing is slow and the system is not timing out and calling it unresponsive as it should. What are the keys that are failing formatted as? USB 1. The "Freeze" may just be due to highly intensive yet massively slow data transfer to read the files.

You can see the speed rating on SD memory these days and that does impact how soon you can take the next picture on your camera. There are a few things you can do to mitigate the experience.

Do your writes in a lower priority sub-process so that it does not block your UI Don't leave the handle open to the file on the USB key, close and reopen as needed. Try those two suggestions and see if the behavior changes.

July 5, July 6, Supplemented Edition. Regrettably documentation of defective file system is beginning to appear, only within past four months after duration of whole thirty months. Protalinski, Emil.

April 14, Boston, Massachusetts: Conde Nast imprint of Advance, G Katsillis. Windows assigns a letter and describes the drive just as "Removable drive" although it has a particular name. Then, when I click on it to open, a pop-up message says that the disk is not formatted and asks me if I want ot format it. The problem is not of the USB flash drive, since I tried two different drives with the same result.

What I've tried with no result: 1. Connecting the drive. Then uninstalling the "USB storage device" from Device Manager, removing the drive, rebooting and then reconnecting the drive.

The drive is then recognised as new and the drivers are installed again. History: 1. Have you tried the Dell support forums? It sounds like a driver or Windows problem. Ya I tried the forums and I saw one guy with the same problem. They recommended that he uninstall all usb devices etc reboot and let windows reinstall them. The problem is I am afraid to do this as I have a all of my usb ports in use and I dont want to end up having nothing working.

I have searched the entire www and have not found a resolution to this problem. I am in the hands of the people of this forum. I also have a Mass Storage Device in my watch which is very handy. This still works no problem at all. I cant understand what the hell is up. You are in Dell-Hell. Do as advised on the web. Make a Restore-point, and uninstall all USB-devices etc.

I will give the reinstall a bash. I will let ye know how I get on. No Joy. Nothing would install after I uninstalled all USB devices not even the mouse. Same story 'Cant find drivers'. I had to do a restore.

I am getting the same problems even though I have the drivers on cd.
