While there have been Gatherings of one sort or another at Braemar since the days of King Malcolm Canmore nine hundred years ago, the Gathering has been run in its present form since During much of that time large crowds have come each year to acclaim their Monarch as Chieftain of the Braemar Gathering.
It is the oldest surviving Friendly Society in the UK. Since , The Gathering has been attended regularly by the reigning Monarch and members of the Royal Family.
The Braemar Royal Highland Charity organises and runs the Gathering and manages the Duke of Rothesay Highland Games Pavillion and Visitor Centre, which opened to the public in March and which houses heritage items dating back to the first games which took place under the Society auspices in The charitable aims of the BRH Charity are the following:.
As a charity, we rely on voluntary donations from individuals, companies and sponsors to undertake all of this charitable work, including the organising of the annual Braemar Gathering. We encourage visitors to book via Eventbrite here to allow us to monitor numbers and capacity but walk-ins will be possible if allowed by maximum capacity and will be asked to pay cash at the door.
