Pc fps drops in games

Hey everyone, sorry I haven't paid attention to this thread for seven years. For all of you experiencing issues, I can't speak to your specific situation, but my problem was that I was playing on a laptop with a cooler clogged up with dust, which caused my CPU and GPU temps to push 90 degrees while under load and massively throttle, causing sustained performance drops.

This was made worse by a number of background tasks wrecking my CPU responsiveness. If you're having issues where you see framerates go down steadily over time, this is likely due to high CPU temperatures, which could be causing throttling. Check if there's any dust blocking up your system cooling, or tweak your fan s to cool your CPU more effectively.

Also close any non-essential background tasks in Task Manager to see if you can let your CPU breathe a bit. Finally, especially on a laptop, changing your power profile to 'ultimate performance' may help as well.

Good luck! I too am having the same issue now. Scanned for malware, nothing. What the hell is going on? Temps are fine. No dust. What is going on?? Ok, i need help. Hello, I've had this issue since I bought my laptop and I'm just tired at this point. All my games start running and a nice framerate and run smoothly and overtime the frames start to drop, sound becomes choppy till it's unplayable. I don't know what the issue is. My fps is dropping to 0 everytime I start warzone. My system specs are: Intel core iH 2.

I'm also experiencing this issue and reading this thread got me really hopeless. It's an intermittent issue for me which makes it so hard to recreate. It seems like every time there's a change with my GPU adding cable extensions, changing in game settings etc. I've replaced my psu to an evga because I had a random gskill brand but here's my specs. I know my system is overkill for a casual gamer but it's all I could get my hands on with stock shortage.

The fullscreen optimizations feature is built in Windows 10 and is enabled by default. It helps to optimize the performance of games and apps when they are running in fullscreen mode. However, it has been proven that this feature could lead to FPS drops during gameplay as well. To solve the massive FPS drops in games, you can try turning off fullscreen optimization for all your instances. Step 1 : Navigate to the installation path of your game, right-click the executable file, and choose Properties.

Step 2 : Switch to the Compatibility tab and check the Disable fullscreen optimizations option. Step 3 : Click Apply and OK to save the changed settings. Then, repeat the above steps to disable the fullscreen optimizations feature for all your games and check if low FPS disappears in games. Besides, malware and virus might also affect your gameplay and cause FPS drops in all games. You can perform a deep scan of your system using your antimalware or antivirus to fix the problem.

Step 3 : When you get the Windows Security window, click Scan options. Then, choose the Windows Defender Offline scan and click the Scan now button. This scan method will help find and remove malicious software from your computer and require a restart of your computer. The scanning process will take about 15 minutes and you need to wait patiently.

After that, check if the game stuttering with low FPS has been resolved. The term is used in gaming and the higher the framerate, the better is the flow of the images on the screen. Low FPS is described by image interruptions and flickering. If the drivers for the graphics card are not the right ones for your system, that can cause a lot of trouble.

You may have the right configuration for the game but when the components start overheating, they start to decrease their performance.

You may have a top performance rig but if the connection is slow or not steady, your FPS is going to drop significantly. Of course, if you choose to do this, you will have to settle for less in-game visual detail. Before trying any troubleshooting steps, our research suggests that you should first restart your PC. Make sure to try this before exploring the steps described in this guide.

Even though it might seem obvious, system requirements are often the reason for which a certain game underperforms and affects your gaming experience with FPS drops. Firstly, the minimum requirements are something you should take with a pinch of salt. The developer informs you that this configuration should suffice if you want to simply run the game. If your system configuration fits in this category, then you should not expect amazing FPS values, but the good news is you can play the game.

To run the game and expect peak performance, you should concentrate on the third column usually called Recommended requirements. This only applies in cases in which the changes are so dramatic that it considerably affects the values needed to run the game optimally, but are usually released for older games or as version updates, so it should be obvious. Not all graphics settings found in modern games will work for every configuration out there.

So, if you have slight issues with your FPS drops, make sure to change the graphics options. Disabling Shadow Quality and Anti-aliasing is always good for starters. Try different variations until you find the one that optimizes performance and quality while keeping the acceptable FPS levels. And sometimes even the top-notch PCs running a game will give you a hard time due to the badly optimized game engine. This is measured in milliseconds, and it indicates a delay between the user and the network itself.

Basically, the higher the latency, the worse the game performance. You can check your latency, on the Speedtest website. In our case, as you can see from the image below, we have a latency of 7 ms, which could be Ok for online gaming, but these are the results from using Wi-Fi. As you can see, if the Windows 10 Update feature forcibly installs another version, you can roll back the drivers and disable the automatic drivers updating by following the steps above. If FPS drops continue, the issue is something else.

However, reverting game versions is impossible for online games and increasingly difficult even for single player experiences. In these cases, stick to other tests on the list and weed them out first.

Alternatively, other software running in the background may be the cause of issues. If you run multiple programs at a time, installed something new, or had an update to other software on your computer, they may cause issues. Try running the game without other software and see if problems persist. Thermal throttling can affect any PC component. When temperatures raise too high, parts such as the CPU or GPU will automatically hold back their performance to stay within safe parameters.

This is a hardware issue that is most often fixed by improving the cooling within your computer. You can confirm that issues are caused by thermal throttling by monitoring your CPU and GPU temperatures while in-game. Many modern games include options to display these numbers while you are playing; otherwise, you can easily download a third-party application that gives real-time readings.

Due to variances in temperature thresholds, however, it is often best to measure thermal throttling using frequency monitoring. One or two second intervals are most common, but some third-party applications let you alter the timing. Most programs take this number and compare it against the speed that Windows says the component is operating at. Only a select few games support frequency monitoring, so a third-party application is likely required. Notably, most Valve games have a command line that does display this information.

Frequency monitoring is most applicable to CPU issues, but the process also applies to graphics cards. If you are using a third-party application and have a second monitor, have a graph of temperature changes open while you play.
